Geographic range: Neotropical: From Mexico to Ecuador. In Mexico on both slopes from S Sonora and S Tamaulipasn south. In interior from central Mexico south. Not present on large portion of Yucatan peninsula.

Physical characteristics: Two groups described:
1.
Assimilis - NE Mexico and Pacific slope - head and upper parts gray brown to brown.
2.
Leucauchen - SE Mexico - head and upper parts dark gray to black.
Both groups - underparts paler, throat whitish streaked brown.

Bill and orbital ring yellowish.

Food habits: Mostly fruit and insects.

Reproduction: Nest built as a cup of mostly vegetable matter. Eggs are whitish to pale blue, marked with brown and gray.

Behavior: Rarely on the ground

Habitat:
Coniferous forest, deciduous, semideciduous, evergreen forest, plantations.
