Members of this group are distributed mostly the world's tropics. However a few species range through subtropics to temperate zones. Three living families are recognized with 23 species.

Turtles, Tortoises, and Terrapins (Testudines)

Members of this group are distributed worldwide through temperate, subtropical and tropical regions. The 12 living families contain around 260 species worldwide.
Lizards (Squamata - Sauria)

Lizards are found almost worldwide, except some oceanic island and high altitudes. This group has over 3.000 species.
Snakes (Squamata - Serpentes)

Snakes are found almost worldwide, except some oceanic island and high altitudes. There are some 11 families with around 2400 species.
