Status: Critical/ Endangered
General: Numerous freshwater lakes, often thermal, hot springs, scattered on the Sierra Madre mountain range. Habitat to large variety of aquatic species (fish, amphibians, invertebrates), many of which are endemic.
Special: Many lakes are called endorheic, meaning they have no connection to the sea.
Fauna:

Amongst many other endemic species:
Rana megapoda
Rana montezumae
Herichthys bartoni

Flora: Many invasive species threaten this ecosystem.
Dangers: Exhausting underground water reserves, polution fron industrial waste, invasive aquatic plants (water hyacinth).
